In Module 2 of our 10-week, Free Online Psychometric Testing Course, we consider the topic of Job Analysis and Competency Frameworks. This Module will be released on 14 October, 2015 to those registered for our Psychometrics MOOC. Below is an outline of what is to be covered.
Summary of Module 2: Job analysis and competency frameworks
In Module Two we now move on to start to consider what needs to be done before we have the test we want to use in front of us. It is important to note that you are being taught best practice and that many tests users will not undertake the activities we are suggesting here. Shortcuts tend to reduce the benefits of using psychometric tests.
This Module focuses on how we arrive at a framework of aspects of the individual that we want to assess – we call this the competency framework. To arrive there, we will consider how to conduct job analyses using various methodologies. At the end of this Module, you should have an understanding not only of how important it is to consider the specifics of what you wish to assess before selecting a test, but you should also be capable of undertaking some minimal form of job analysis yourself.
Learning Outcomes for Module 2
– Understand the role and importance of job analysis in providing insights into aspects of the person to be assessed.
– Understand a number of different types of job analysis and have a basic insight into how they are carried out.
– Be able to use O*Net
– Have an understanding of competency frameworks and their link to psychometrics.
– Start to appreciate that being scientific in the choice of a psychometric test will yield better returns.
-Know a little about alternative assessments (both good and bad) and understand how various assessments may be used together with psychometrics to improve performance prediction.
